My Sosa 44 is Urbain Napoléon Baptiste DUMONT, born on May 25, 1812 in Fresnes-en-Tardenois and son of Marie Catherine Elisabeth, 28 years old, day laborer. The life of a single woman in the 19th century was not easy. This was without counting Pierre Marie BOURESCHE who married Marie Catherine the following year, on June 10, 1813.
Two children were added to the siblings: Pierre Louis Félix, in 1814, and Marie Antoinette Flore, in 1816. The father, Pierre Marie, a servant in Laon with Etienne BRUNEL, spendthrift of the begging depot in Montreuil-sous-Laon, died on 16 May 1818.
After having been a « single mother », Marie Catherine Elisabeth DUMONT had the status of widow, a status that was more enviable than the previous one. She was a day labourer and was able to raise her children alone, which was not common in her time.
Pierre Louis Félix married Marie Louise Florentine MARLIER, 18 years old, in Goussancourt, on November 21, 1837, and Marie Catherine became a grandmother the following year with the birth of Louis Léopold. In 1839, she was a grandmother again with the birth of Victorine, Marie Antoinette’s daughter, no named father.
Marie Catherine married her son Urbain Napoléon, on January 26, 1840 in Courtemont-Varennes, to Marie Louise Reine SAINT-REMY, 23 years old.
While she was living in Goussancourt as a servant, Marie Antoinette died on 25 December 1842.
With no dependent children, Marie Catherine married Jean Baptiste Charles LAMÉ on 30 January 1843. If, for Marie Catherine, it was the second marriage, for John the Baptist, it was the third… He was the father of five children with his first wife, Marie Louise Joseph LEGROS, only one, Pierre Henry Honoré reached adulthood. From his second marriage, two children were born, none of whom had any descendants.
After witnessing the birth and marriages of her grandchildren, Marie Catherine Elisabeth DUMONT died on 15 September 1862 in Fresnes-en-Tardenois, then aged 77.
Marie Catherine did not have her lineage in my large genealogical family, from now on, she is no longer alone...
